Cocklakes Farm Shop together with the Rod and Reel Tearoom is situated in an enviable position close to the magnificent Blencathra just off the A66.
It is a family business which was founded in 1996 trading as Highgate Turkeys LTD which operated a few miles away at Hutton John. Cumbrian farmer Peter Smith is the founder and owner of the business which moved to Cocklakes House in 2004 and has grown and diversified steadily.
Cocklakes is a working farm with 600 breeding ewes and the home of the well known Highgate Turkey. Peter Smith takes pride in caring for and rearing his stock to a high standard and sources the best beef in local auctions.
The shop was first opened in 2009 and the Tea Room in May 2011 to meet the demand from shop customers who were looking for a breakfast, light lunch or a delicious cake or pudding to be enjoyed whilst overlooking Mell Fell and the Trout Fishing Lake. The Shop now produces on site a range of sausages, pies, quiches as well as home-cooked ham, beef and turkey. Local cheeses, jams and honey are also on sale. The Rod and Reel Tea Room has a good choice of homemade cakes and scones.
The four acre trout fishing lake provides a unique venue for individuals or groups.
Also on site the well equipped studio accommodation to sleep two is ideal for a relaxing break to explore the beautiful Lake District National Park.
