Long Meg & Her Daughters Stone Circle

One of the finest stone circles in the north of England, the circle has a diameter of about 350 feet, the second biggest in the country. Long Meg is the tallest of the 69 stones, about 12 feet high, with three mysterious symbols, its four corners facing the points of the compass and standing some 60 feet outside the circle.

Lowther Castle and Gardens

Wander in stunning woodlands, with an occasional view of red squirrels and a wonderful array of birds. Admire the stunning views of the Western Lakeland Fells as you stroll along the escarpment path or marvel at the scale of the some of the gardens stunning features including the Pate D'Oie, Jack Croft's Pond or partially uncovered Japanese Garden.

Hutton in the Forest

Today Hutton-in-the-Forest reflects centuries of history and change. A house of six periods between the mid 14th and the mid 19th centuries, Hutton is a rich illustration of the development of the country house in the North of England. Hutton is surrounded by beautiful gardens and grounds. It is known that there were elaborate gardens around the house from the late 17th century.
